If you happen to be growing terrestrial orchids you can place them outside in these conditions as well. Although some orchids will thrive in these conditions it’s important to make sure the climate does not get too hot otherwise you will have to bring them inside before they begin to burn. If you do leave them in the hot sun make sure to give them plenty of water because the water will dry up very quickly. Avoid watering your orchids at night as this could cause disease or even bacterial infections to thrive.  Make sure to water your plants in the morning for best results.

Provisions also need to be made for periods of excessive rain. To prevent your orchids from rotting away you will need to do something to keep rain from over-watering your orchids. Placing a tent over your orchids can stop the amount of water from entering your plant roots.  When using a tent you will need to remember to take off the tent when the rain has stopped.

Brassia verrucossa, Dendrobium miyakei, Encyclia polybulbon, Laelia anceps, Oncidium flexuosum, and Trichopilia tortilis are just some types of orchids that are allowed to grow in the ground successfully.

When planting orchids outdoors make sure you give your orchids a good place to grow using the right type of orchid soil.

Make sure to get the proper supplies when planting orchids outdoors such as sphagnum moss, wire, or fishing line. Gloves are also an important supply to have especially if you are handling sphagnum moss.  The moss can cause infections when you are handling it. Place moss on the bark or board as well as loosely around the roots of the orchid. This will cushion the roots and prevent damage from the wire or string used to hold it in place.

You will need to take the string or wire and tire your plant to the area you happen to mount them. By tying your orchid to the bark we will permit the plant to hook its roots into the bark in order for the mounting of orchids completed.

These same steps can also be used to mount orchids to other objects such as trees and rocks, but they will need more water since they are mounted and not in pots.
